Rainfall de Young

Mixed Media Installation

Paper Mache, Beeswax, Acrylic, Copper Wire, 25' x 8'

2009

Over three hundred blue and green beeswax-coated paper mache forms are wrapped in and suspended by thin copper wire in this 25-foot long, wall based installation. Rain is represented by the hanging drop shapes and the many shimmering reflections of light on copper wire as well as the quieter reflection on the beeswax surfaces. Rainfall is one of a series of installations which focus on water, an increasingly important element in the rising awareness of our use and mis-use of natural resources.
