MULTIPLES
Ceramics has always been a medium of repeated multiples, and these installations all use 'repetition with variation.’ Many of the forms also reflect textures and formations in the landscape. As a newcomer to California in the 1970's, I was inspired by the layers of earth I saw in coastal cliffs and mountain formations. The origin of clay as part of the earth made it both literally and figuratively a medium I used to reference formation. These sets of ceramic multiples were installed many times in different settings and contexts. Sometimes they were in 'marching' formation over hills or across a gallery; other times they created enclosures and quiet spaces.
